The Three Levels of Bible Triage

1️⃣ First-Tier Doctrines — Essential to Christianity

These are doctrines that define what it means to be a Christian.
If someone rejects these, they are teaching a different gospel.

  • The deity and humanity of Jesus

  • Salvation by grace through faith

  • The resurrection of Christ

  • The Trinity

  • The authority of Scripture

    Disagreement here breaks Christian unity.

2️⃣ Second-Tier Doctrines — Important but Not Saving

These doctrines affect church structure, practice, and fellowship, but not salvation itself.

Examples:

  • Baptism (mode, timing, meaning)

  • Spiritual gifts (cessationism vs. continuationism)

  • Church leadership models

  • End-times views

Christians may disagree here and still be saved, but they may attend different churches.

3️⃣ Third-Tier Doctrines — Non-Essential & Debatable

These are issues where Scripture allows significant interpretive freedom and disagreement should not break fellowship.

Examples:

  • Bible translations

  • Worship styles

  • Details of prophecy timelines

  • Christian liberty issues

    These should be handled with humility, patience, and love.
